Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders 12th Match 2025 Match Prediction
Mumbai Indians (MI) will look to start off IPL 2025 on the right note at Wankhede Stadium as they strive to avoid their second consecutive loss at home. After experiencing slow starts at Wankhede recently, Mumbai may need to accelerate quickly if they want to avoid falling back into a battle for survival later in the season.
Quinton de Kock showed his skills against Royal Challengers Bangalore, and will look to carry it into this match. If he maintains his current run rate he could go past 8,000 runs in T20 cricket!
MI’s bowling performance in their two games so far has been below par, so they will look to improve against KKR in this department. Ashwani Kumar took four wickets on debut and Trent Boult must both find ways to make an impactful contribution with their balls.
KKR’s batsmen have shown solid form thus far, led by Sunil Narine and Andre Russell who will play pivotal roles during the middle overs. While Jasprit Bumrah may be unavailable, Vaibhav Arora, Spencer Johnson and Varun Chakaravarthy can take some key wickets with the new ball.
Playing 11
Mumbai Indians registered their inaugural win of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium thanks to an exceptional bowling performance by Ashwani Kumar who bowled them out for only 116 runs, ending up with 4-24 which are best figures by any Indian player on IPL debut.
KKR’s innings began terribly when Sunil Narine was caught off Trent Boult by Ryan Rickelton off Trent Boult in the first over. Quinton de Kock too fell prey to Deepak Chahar’s attack at Gully and caught by Deepak Chahar shortly thereafter.
Ajinkya Rahane’s men were struggling with the bat until Suryakumar Yadav came on and hit back-to-back fours before hitting one for six off Russell. MI then inched closer towards victory as Russell sent another ball sailing past MI’s wicket for six to bring them within reach.
Rohit Sharma will likely start off either with Rickelton or Jacks but may choose a riskier strategy early.
Scorecard
Mumbai Indians have defeated Kolkata Knight Riders 23 out of 32 times during IPL history, sharing 57 wickets between them. Rohit Sharma leads MI with 954 runs scored; their bowling department boasts Sunil Narine, Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga as their most prolific players.
After reviewing with DRS, the umpire’s decision stands. Spencer Johnson walks off, to be replaced by Vignesh Puthur; should Mujeeb Ur-Rahman return, they could both come back into play.
Hardik Pandya joins Ashwani Kumar in speaking to the media and expresses his joy at winning at home, with all players chipping in nicely today. Pandya complimented Kumar for being exceptional with the ball; saying that KKR batsmen played right into his hands.
Deepak Chahar strikes again, dismissing Venkatesh Iyer for only 3 runs after mistiming a short delivery from Chahar and getting an edge to the boundary. This marks Mumbai Indians’ fourth dismissal within Powerplay as they continue their dominance of KKR’s batting order.
Result
Ashwani Kumar delivered an incredible bowling performance at Wankhede Stadium during their 12th match of IPL 2025, helping Mumbai Indians secure an easy 8-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Ashwani took 4/24 in only three overs while bowling at his best length with variations that maintained pressure. It was truly memorable debut for an uncapped bowler like him – an achievement even at his debut!
Quinton de Kock fell early for a duck after Trent Boult uprooted his middle stump with the inaugural delivery. Sunil Narine made some ground before miscuing a short ball from Hardik Pandya and skidding it to Tilak Varma at deep backward point, for his fourth wicket fall.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh then came into the crease, but their resistance ended quickly. Raghuvanshi mistimed a short ball from Pandya (1/10) and was caught superbly by Naman Dhir at deep square leg; Singh missed out on reaching fifty after hitting straight through Spencer Johnson to Vignesh Puthur at long-on.
Manish Pandey was brought into the game as an impact sub for KKR, yet failed to have any noticeable impact but even this wasn’t enough to save KKR from suffering a crushing defeat and fall to sixth position on the points table.
