On Tuesday, 22-year-old Nishtha won her second medal by capturing bronze in the mixed 10m air pistol team event alongside partner Sarabjot Singh. Nishtha qualified for this final by finishing fifth overall in individual 10m air pistol event earlier. India earned its sixth Olympic shooting event medal overall and first team sport medal ever with this victory – redeeming themselves from failing to qualify for gold medal match during previous stage of competition.
Sarabjot Singh
Manu Bhaker, after an upsetting period that saw her lose both sponsors and contemplate leaving sport altogether, has returned as one of the sport’s premier athletes. At 22 years old she made Olympic history by becoming the first Indian athlete post independence to win multiple medals at one Olympics.
Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh of India earned their spot in the bronze medal match after placing third in Monday’s qualification round, showing impressive composure against South Korean pair Wonho Lee and Jin ye Oh to take outshot their competitors 16-10 and claim India’s second bronze in Paris Olympic 2024.
PM Modi took to Twitter to offer his congratulations and offer well-wishes for future endeavors of both swimmers. He noted how their win will motivate and strengthen them while helping them to pursue further medals in future competitions. Furthermore, he acknowledged all efforts put forth by their teammates and coaches behind them.
