WWE Backlash 2024 Goes International

WWE Backlash 2024, WWE’s post-WrestleMania PPV event, will go global this year and features several strategic booking decisions that should lead to an excellent show.

LDLC Arena in Decines-Charpieu, Lyon Metropolis will serve as the site for this historic PPV event – marking its debut outside North America! This venue can hold approximately 15000 fans.

It was held on May 4, 2024 at the LDLC Arena in Decines-Charpieu

Backlash, WWE’s annual pay-per-view event that follows its flagship show WrestleMania, will take place this year on May 4 at the LDLC Arena in Decines-Charpieu, Lyon France. It will feature several title matches such as Cody Rhodes defending his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against former champion AJ Styles after winning an SmackDown tournament to gain this opportunity; Damian Priest will defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Jey Uso as well.

On Saturday at 1 pm ET, Peacock will stream live coverage of this event with all matches listed below as match cards.

LDLC Arena of Decines-Charpieu can hold up to 16,000 people. As one of France’s largest venues, it will play host to a major WWE event for the first time this October – in addition to hosting other sporting events and music concerts in previous years.

It was the first WWE PPV to be held in France

Backlash 2024 will mark the inaugural WWE premium live event (PLE) to take place in France and will take place at LDLC Arena in Lyon-Decines this Saturday night, preceded by a taping of SmackDown LIVE which took place there the previous evening.

At WrestleMania 40, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns to claim his championship, marking his first successful title defense on television since winning it at WrestleMania 40. On this night, four titles will be up for grabs including an incredible contest between Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles that will mark Cody Rhodes’ first defense on television of that championship since winning at WrestleMania 40 itself.

Bleacher Report will offer live coverage of this event, which can be watched on Peacock. Subscribers in the US can watch televised PPVs on WWE Network for $4.99 monthly subscription. BT Sport users in the UK may stream them live as well. iTunes and Google Play Store can also sell WWE PPVs. For more information regarding this upcoming show visit WWE’s website.

It was the first WWE event to be held outside North America

Backlash 2024 marked the first WWE event ever held outside North America and it proved a hit. One of the major highlights was Cody Rhodes vs AJ Styles; but all matches provided an amazing event experience – Jessika Carr became the first woman ever to referee a main event main event, while Tama Tonga made his in-ring debut against Kevin Owens and Randy Orton for their tag team match.

In the main event, two former champions engaged in an incredible battle between themselves. It was smartly decided to make it an all-out street fight in order to showcase its brutality, and the crowd loved every minute of it! At first it looked as though KO would win but Tanga Loa broke pinfall by hitting Owens with a Samoan Spike and hit him out cold!

The event was a tremendous success, and many fans reported it broke new boundaries for WWE. Now is an exciting time to be a fan of WWE; and this event marks just the start of bigger things to come – like returning to Saudi Arabia for King and Queen of the Ring in May as well as debuting Bash in Berlin in August!

It was the first WWE event to be broadcast on pay-per-view

At an age when Hulu, HBO Go and Netflix dominate our viewing habits, it may be hard to remember that pro wrestling once operated as a pay-per-view business. Yet fans were willing to pony up money in order to experience events like WrestleMania live. But how did WWE make this possible?

This event marked the inaugural pay-per-view WWE event and featured numerous engaging matches – such as when Cactus Jack defeated Goldust in a creative battle royale match, or in its main event when Brock Lesnar defeated Edge in a fierce handicap match.

At this event, many new teams made their debuts, such as Team DX (Kevin Owens and Randy Orton) vs The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga). Other noteworthy matches on the card included Chris Benoit-Booker T US title match as well as Batista, King Booker, Finlay and Bobby Lashley in a fatal 4-way world title match.
