Dallas Mavericks Vs Los Angeles Clippers Standings
Dallas was powered by a boisterous crowd at American Airlines Center to take an early lead as Luka Doncic and P.J. Washington connected on multiple shots for momentum – only for Los Angeles to begin scoring at will!
Kyrie Irving made sure there would be no more noise after scoring an important basket late in the fourth quarter to seal victory and end any further controversy in this matchup.
Dallas Mavericks
Dallas grabbed 10 offensive rebounds in the first quarter to build up an early five-point lead against LA and take control of this matchup. Paul George kept LA within striking distance by hitting two 3-pointers while Russell Westbrook missed on his only attempt from long range.
Maxi Kleber’s threes kept Dallas’ momentum rolling through the second, while Daniel Gafford’s alley-oop off of a Doncic steal put Dallas up 56-46 at halftime.
Kyrie Irving scored 14 points to lead Dallas past Los Angeles and help pull away from their opponent, while Luka Doncic put up 35 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and made some big plays PJ Washington and Ivica Zubac also made big contributions towards Dallas’ victory and took back an advantage in their series; that victory handed Los Angeles their worst playoff loss ever and gave Dallas a 3-2 edge heading home where they will meet up once more on Friday evening.
Los Angeles Clippers
Luka Doncic shined bright in his first playoff series victory and Kyrie Irving proved himself as an invaluable co-star on the Mavericks’ run toward another championship run. Following their 123-93 thrashing of Los Angeles Clippers in Game 5, Dallas will move onto play Oklahoma City Thunder in Round 2.
Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers had an uneventful night, but Dallas Mavericks were ready for every run Los Angeles made down the stretch. Norman Powell connected on a 3-pointer off a fast break, then Terence Mann found him open for another 3-point shot to give Dallas an insurmountable 27-point advantage with just 12 minutes remaining in regulation play.
The Clippers’ hopes of mounting a comeback were dashed when Dante Exum turned over the ball trying to find Irving, who wasn’t open on that play. Meanwhile, Dallas shot an anemic 4-of-20 and 0-for-7 from 3-point range during the opening quarter; which illustrated just how bad their shooting had become.
Schedule
Dallas Mavericks will host Los Angeles Clippers in Game 5 of their opening round series. After taking a 3-2 lead with Game 4, which they won in LA, on Friday they’ll face each other once more in Dallas.
Luka Doncic led Dallas with 64 of their 97 points scored in Game 4, but other role players also played an essential part. Derrick Jones Jr. and Maxi Kleber provided strong contributions, particularly Maxi’s five 3-point attempts in 27 minutes – something Luka alone couldn’t accomplish alone.
Mavericks defense has proven enough to stave off another Clippers comeback attempt in Game 4, yet more from their star guard will be required if they want to close out this series.
Predictions
The Mavericks enter Game 6 with a 3-2 series lead and hope to secure their first playoff win since 2015. A loud crowd at American Airlines Center should provide Dallas a boost, and Luka Doncic should look to continue his incredible play against their home fans.
The Clippers looked completely transformed in the second quarter as they stopped giving away offensive rebounds and played with better composure. Norman Powell scored 20 points off the bench for LA while James Harden and Paul George struggled to penetrate Dallas’ defense.
Both teams should score plenty in this match-up and an over 207.5 point total would be an excellent bet given Kawhi Leonard’s absence from this contest. Paul George should play more efficiently to help keep the Clippers competitive; however, Dallas Mavericks defense can be difficult to penetrate without their best player present.
