UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying Standings

UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying Standings

Germany won their group while England finished fourth.

But, what are the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying standings like? France came within one penalty kick of winning in 2020 and remain an intimidating side – boasting tactical discipline, physical prowess and plenty of talent.

Group A

As is customary for Nations League tournaments, two top teams from each group automatically qualify for the final tournament, while remaining spots will be decided through play-offs amongst 12 best performing teams based on performance and rankings in 2022-23 Nations League rankings.

Italy are the reigning European Champions, after narrowly beating England at Euro 2020. Portugal are another contender, led by Cristiano Ronaldo who could lead them to another continental crown victory.

This Group of Death features three of FIFA’s Top 10 teams; Italy takes on Switzerland, while hosts Germany face France for an enthralling contest.

Group B

Group B, often dubbed the ‘Group of Death’, features holders Spain, Italy, Croatia and Albania all competing against one another. Spain beat Italy and Croatia at Euro 2020 finals, and currently possess one of the deepest squads at Euro 2024; they look likely to emerge victorious despite facing such formidable opposition.

Croatia are looking forward to returning to the knockout rounds for a sixth year and are led by long-term coach Zlatko Dalic. Although they might not boast as many star players, Croatia knows how to win major tournaments and should make progress through to round six this time around.

Group C

Following an intense group stage, it’s now knockout rounds time! Spain remains a clear favorite to win the tournament but each of their opponents have an equal shot at victory.

Ollie Watkins’ late goal against the Netherlands secured England a place in the last eight. Now, they must look towards facing off against an inspiring Spanish side for glory in the final.

Denmark and Slovenia both recorded identical statistics, yet Denmark finished ahead of Slovenia in UEFA rankings. Both nations hope to return to consecutive Euro finals after long absences; these two will join an impressive Serbia team who rescued their chances by scoring late against Bulgaria on Matchday 10. Two further spots will be decided via playoffs.

Group D

Group of Death boasts three teams from FIFA’s Top 10, with Spain having defeated Croatia in June’s UEFA Nations League final and, should they make Germany for their Euro 2016 final appearance, becoming the first team ever to claim four European Championship titles.

Switzerland are on an upward trajectory under Murat Yakin, and could pose a real challenge as Toni Kroos prepares to bid farewell to international football. Edward Iordanescu’s Romania also looks potent; their impressive 3-0 win against Ukraine was proof of that fact.

Play-offs were held to decide the last three spots at the final tournament, taking place in March 2024. Each path consisted of one team from Leagues A, B and C plus four third-placed teams from qualifying groups.

Group E

Now that the group stage has concluded, we turn our focus to knockout rounds. The top two teams from each group will advance to the last 16 and one step closer to crowning a new European champion.

Edward Iordanescu led Romania to victory against Ukraine 3-0 in Group E’s final match, delighting Munich fans. Son of Anghel Iordanescu has shown new enthusiasm in extracting maximum performance from his players.

Switzerland was impressive under Murat Yakin, winning against Hungary and drawing with Scotland despite an injury-time Niclas Fullkrug equaliser, ensuring they topped their pool.

Group F

As Euro 2024 nears completion, 16 teams remain as the group stage wraps up. Only the top two from each group plus four third-placed sides advance to single-elimination knockout rounds.

Gareth Southgate’s England may not have been at their effervescent best but still managed to top Group C thanks to wins over Northern Ireland, Denmark and Sweden. Forwards Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane have stood out for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions.

Belgium’s golden generation have been at times on the brink of disaster this tournament, yet are expected to advance past their group stage matches and into the last 16. They take on France in their final group game for one last chance at reaching the knockout phase.
