Manu Bhaker - First Indian Woman to Win Shooting Medal at Olympics 2024

Manu Bhaker Made History at Paris Games 2024 Manu Bhaker created history at Paris Games 2024 when she made history herself by becoming the first Indian women shooter ever to secure an Olympic medal in 10m Air Pistol event at Chateauroux National Shooting Centre and thus opening India’s medal tally for shooting events. Furthermore, this historic victory marked their comeback following their failure at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games editions respectively.

At 14, Delhi-based sportswoman from Haryana’s Jhajjar district discovered her passion in shooting. After experiencing various forms of sport – tennis, skating and boxing – she discovered shooting as her path. Soon thereafter she made an outstanding impression in national shooting circuit competitions, winning three gold medals at 2017 National Shooting Championships and eventually being selected by national selection panel for participation at 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta.

She qualified for the final in remarkable style, finishing third with a score of 231.7. Oh Ye Jin and Yeji Kim from South Korea both qualified with scores of 236.79.

Bhaker shot 50.4 in the first series of the final, narrowly missing out on making the top two through two 9.6s in the second series. She managed to climb back into second place during the third series with another score of 50.4; however, Yeji Kim secured first place by scoring 241.3.

Bhaker made history when she won a remarkable comeback at Paris Olympics, taking home the bronze medal after missing out on medaling at Rio after her pistol malfunctioned during qualifying round.

Indian President Droupadi Murmu heaped affluent compliments upon Delhi shooter Arthi Pahwa and expressed her hearty congratulations for her incredible feat. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also took to X-Potential to send his warm regards.

Abhinav Bindra and Virat Kohli also gave him their praise.

Manu Bhaker never gave up her goal of winning an Olympic medal, never giving in despite setbacks, inspiring millions across India and inspiring the next generation to follow their own dreams. Her journey will long be remembered; her story one that inspires courage, resilience and perseverance among young Indians to follow theirs! Watch Team India’s “Vijay Rath” victory parade from Nariman Point to Wankhede amid sea of fans.
