Ireland are unbeaten against Afghanistan, having won their Test series recently, and will aim to build on that win when playing them in this three-match T20 series.

James Cameron Dow to Mohammad Nabi: Fuller on middle, Nabi paddles it fine towards leg side until it goes towards fine leg where the keeper quickly caught it for an out. OUT!

Bowling

Ireland will aim to level their three-match ODI series against Afghanistan with victory at Sharjah, after losing in a thrilling finish the opening match of this tour. Following their first attempt and drawing some confidence from that win, Ireland are determined to clinch this one and build momentum going into their final tour fixture.

After an unstable start to their innings, Ireland’s batting unit soon found their stride. Captain Andrew Balbirnie (28) and PJ Moor (12) were dismissed before Harry Tector (32) and Curtis Campher (49) put on a solid partnership of 60 between themselves to keep Ireland in contention.

Hopes of an unlikely comeback were dashed when Paul Stirling (24) was run out off a full ball from Ihsanullah Janat and it ended there – Afghanistan will celebrate their historic triumph for their first-ever Test win! A truly momentous achievement. Congratulations Afghanistan on your historic win – celebrate it because it deserves it!

Batting

Ireland Cricket Team, based out of Dublin and operating as part of Cricket Ireland, represents their Republic at the highest levels. Cricket Ireland operates domestic and international venues.

Irish men’s cricket team is an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC), but in June 2017 were granted full Test match status with Afghanistan – both teams will play three T20 series matches and then a one-off Test match in Sharjah.

Ireland boasts an experienced batting lineup, led by Andrew Balbirnie and captain Paul Stirling. Harry Tector has also shown promising form in recent weeks and may look to build on his first innings fifty. For Ireland to have any chance at victory in this Test match, all their experienced players must fire at once.

Fielding

Ireland won the toss and elected to field first. Mark Adair made an immediate impactful statement of intent by dismissing Hashmatullah Shahidi (55 runs) and Karim Janat (13) to set back Afghanistan. When Barry McCarthy got Nasir Jamal (2) out and Craig Young took Rahmanullah Gurbaz for 55, Ireland were in control.

Irish batsman Andrew Balbirnie, Harry Tector, Gareth Delany and Curtis Campher standout among Ireland’s impressive batting lineup. Paul Stirling serves as captain with Lorcan Tucker serving as specialist keeper. Fast bowlers Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy and Craig Young lead Ireland’s bowling attack.

Results

Ireland have secured victory against Afghanistan in Sharjah with ease, thanks to some strong bowling from Paul Stirling’s bowlers who kept Afghanistan at bay from ball one and an outstanding display by all players batting well – highlighted by Paul’s unbeaten half-ton performance.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s sixth ODI century led Afghanistan to an emphatic 310-5 in their 50 overs. Ireland struggled at 34-3 before Harry Tector and Lorcan Tucker combined to forge a 173-run partnership; Tector himself reached 138 before being run out by Gulbadin Naib.

James Cameron Dow to Mohammad Nabi, OUT! Run out appeal taken up as Nabi attempted for an unobtainable second run. That was close, but Ireland produced an outstanding performance and would surely be delighted with their win; two ODI victories now in succession will only increase Ireland’s confidence heading into their third match against Afghanistan – who aim to secure series victory themselves.
