Paris 2024 OLYMPICS BADMINTON: CHIRAG-SATWIK MAKE QUARTER-FINALS

CHIRAG-SATWIK

At the Paris 2024 Olympic Badminton Tournament, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy made history when they became the first Indian men’s doubles pair ever to reach the quarterfinals of an Olympic badminton tournament. By defeating Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar of France 21-17, 21-14 in Group C play, Satwik-SATWIK secured their spot in the last eight.

Indian pair will now compete against Indonesian duo Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Fajar Alfian who have also secured top two finishes in their group. On Tuesday, both pairs will battle it out to determine which group triumphs.

Sat-Chi are now set to play in the knockout stage and have won over their nation. Their win stands as testament to both coaches and players; together, they have created an unprecedented benchmark in sport that has inspired millions to follow them down their chosen path.

Best wishes to this team and let’s hope they make this Olympics memorable for India!

Day 3 at the Paris Olympics 2024 proved disappointing for Team India. Shooter Arjun Babuta finished fourth in the 10m Air Rifle Men’s Final while archers Ajay Singh and Ravi Kumar failed to qualify for their respective semi-finals and thus missed out on medal opportunities.

On Monday, PV Sindhu will kick-start his men’s singles tournament against world No 52 Julien Carraggi of Italy and look to defend the Olympic bronze he won back in 2012.

Prithika Pavade advanced to the quarterfinals in Women’s Singles after defeating Johanne Olsson from Sweden in straight sets. As with her fellow Indian players, Pavade will look to improve upon her performance from round 1.

Satwiksairaj Reddy and Chirag Shetty of India are virtually guaranteed to secure one of the two top spots in their group at the Paris Olympics 2024. They began their Olympic journey by defeating 40th-ranked French pair Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar, before defeating world No 7 Muhammad Rian Ardianto/Fajar Alian of Indonesia later that same day.

French pair Satwik and Chirag have been disqualified, leading them to emerge as group leaders. Indian and Indonesian pairs will play each other to decide the final standings within their groups on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, four remaining badminton events will begin their Round of 16 tournaments. Men’s and women’s singles top two from each group will advance to quarter-finals; top two from four groups in men’s doubles will advance to semi-finals; while two quarter-final spots will be filled through random draw. Semifinals are set to be played Thursday with finals taking place Sunday; all times are local (France).
